Pants and jeans

Measure flat with the waistband aligned. Best for jeans, trousers, shorts and skirts with a fixed waistband.

Rise	Crotch seam to the top of the front waistband

Total length	Top of the waistband to the outside bottom hem

Tops and jackets

Lay the item flat, smooth but not stretched. Best for shirts, tees, knitwear, blazers and jackets.

Dresses and skirts

Use flat garment measurements so buyers can compare against something they already own.

Shoes

Measure the printed size if visible, then add insole or outsole measurements when the fit is unclear.

Bags

Add dimensions for handbags, totes, satchels and backpacks so buyers can judge capacity quickly.

Listing checklist

Before you publish

A small measurement habit can reduce fit questions, returns and buyer hesitation.

Photograph the tape measure in at least one key photo when sizing is likely to matter.
Write measurements as approximate, especially for soft, stretchy or vintage items.
List the tag size and measured size if they are different.
Keep units consistent. Australian buyers usually understand cm, while denim buyers often search waist inches.
Do not stretch elastic or knitwear unless you clearly write relaxed and stretched measurements.

Measurement questions

Should reseller measurements be flat or around the body?

Most clothing resale measurements are taken with the garment laid flat. For waist, chest, bust and hips, write that the measurement is flat if you are not doubling it.

What measurements should I include for jeans?

For jeans, include waist flat, rise, inseam, hips and leg opening. If the waist is important, also use the lay-flat waist converter to estimate the measured waist in inches.
