How to Turn an eBay Listing Into a Depop Listing

If you already sell clothes on eBay, you have probably done most of the hard work already.

You have photographed the item. You have written the title. You have added the brand, size, colour, condition, postage details and price. Maybe you have even measured the item properly and noted the flaws.

So when people talk about selling on Depop as well, the obvious question is:

Do I really need to create the whole listing again?

Not completely.

A good eBay listing can become a good Depop listing, but it should not be copied across word-for-word without thinking. eBay and Depop attract different buyer behaviour. eBay is more search-driven and detail-heavy. Depop is more fashion-led, visual, style-based and mobile-first.

That does not mean one is better than the other.

It means the best workflow is usually:

Use eBay as your detailed source listing, then adapt the right information for Depop.

This guide walks through how to do that properly.

Why turning eBay listings into Depop listings makes sense

For Australian clothing resellers, cross-listing is becoming more tempting.

eBay Australia now offers free selling for eligible Australia-based sellers with AU $25,000 or less in sales over the past 12 months. To qualify, sellers generally need an Australian registration address, no eBay Pro plan and qualifying eBay.com.au sales. Eligible sellers do not pay transaction fees, also called final value fees, when items sell, although optional listing upgrades, international sales fees, label costs and some other charges can still apply.

Depop is also changing. Depop’s own help page says that from 22 July 2026, it is removing selling fees in Australia, although payment processing fees still apply. The same page lists the Australian Depop Payments processing fee as 2.6% + $0.30 AUD.

At the same time, eBay and Etsy announced in February 2026 that eBay would acquire Depop, with Depop described as a C2C fashion marketplace with around 7 million active buyers, nearly 90% under 34, and more than 3 million active sellers as of the end of 2025. The announcement also specifically mentioned future cross-listing opportunities as part of the broader strategy.

That gives Australian sellers a pretty clear signal.

Clothing resale is getting more competitive, more platform-driven and more connected. If you already list on eBay, Depop can give the right items a second audience.

The trick is not to list everything everywhere.

The trick is to turn the right eBay listings into Depop listings properly.

eBay listings and Depop listings are not the same thing

An eBay listing is usually built for search.

A strong eBay title might look like this:

Harley-Davidson Mens Shirt 3XL Grey Button Up Long Sleeve Casual Cotton Biker

That title is not beautiful, but it works for eBay. It includes the brand, gender, item type, size, colour, closure, sleeve length, material, style words and buyer search terms.

eBay’s listing guidance recommends complete and accurate listings, including clear descriptions, honest condition information, high-quality photos from different angles, flaw photos and item specifics such as brand, size, colour and style.

Depop is different.

A Depop listing still needs searchable words, but it should feel more natural. Depop recommends starting descriptions with relevant words a buyer would search for, adding measurements and fit notes, describing condition and flaws, and including shipping information. Depop also says complete details such as category, brand, price, colour and style help match listings to buyer searches.

So the job is not “copy eBay to Depop”.

The job is:

Translate the listing from eBay language into Depop language.

Step 1: Decide whether the item belongs on Depop

Before you touch the title or photos, ask one question:

Would a Depop buyer actually want this?

Depop is strongest for fashion, vintage, streetwear, sneakers, designer, preloved and style-led pieces.

Good eBay listings to turn into Depop listings include:

• branded shirts
• vintage tees
• Harley-Davidson shirts
• Nike and Adidas jackets
• Levi’s jeans
• Dr. Martens boots
• RM Williams boots
• Gorman dresses
• Country Road linen pieces
• Y2K tops
• denim jackets
• leather jackets
• streetwear
• workwear-style overshirts
• sneakers
• bags and accessories

Poor candidates include:

• very basic low-value fast fashion
• generic office clothing with no style angle
• damaged items with no vintage or design appeal
• items with bad photos
• items with missing size information
• items where postage makes the total price unattractive
• anything you are not confident is authentic

This is where a lot of sellers go wrong. They think cross-listing means moving every eBay item to Depop.

It does not.

A PlayStation console might be fine on eBay, but it does not belong on Depop. Depop’s prohibited items list includes technology and electronics such as games consoles, controllers, computers, tablets, smartwatches, chargers and hard drives.

Step 2: Check the policy traps before copying

Depop is not just “another eBay”.

It has its own rules.

For clothing sellers, the big ones are:

• Do not sell counterfeit items.
• Do not use stock photos or copied listing content.
• Do not use misleading titles or irrelevant hashtags.
• Disclose that second-hand clothing is second-hand or used.
• Make sure second-hand clothing has been cleaned according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Depop’s prohibited items policy specifically lists counterfeit clothing and accessories as prohibited, and says second-hand clothing must be disclosed as second-hand or used and cleaned according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Depop’s community guidelines also say sellers should use original images, avoid stock photos and copied listings, and avoid misleading titles or irrelevant hashtags.

So before turning an eBay listing into a Depop listing, clean up anything that sounds vague, exaggerated or copied.

Bad:

RARE VINTAGE Y2K DESIGNER STYLE CHANEL LOOK BAG

Better:

Black quilted chain shoulder bag, vintage-inspired style

Only use brand names, style terms and hashtags when they are true.

Step 3: Pick the best photos, not all the photos

eBay lets sellers add up to 24 pictures to a listing, and recommends high-quality photos from different angles with flaws clearly shown.

Depop’s listing help page says sellers can add up to four photos and one video when creating a listing.

That means you usually need to choose, not dump.

For Depop, pick the four photos that sell the item fastest:

1. Main photo - the item clearly shown, well-lit and cropped nicely.
2. Fit/style photo - flat lay, hanger, mannequin or worn-style shot if appropriate.
3. Detail photo - brand tag, fabric texture, print, embroidery, buttons or unique feature.
4. Trust photo - size tag, care tag, measurements or any flaw.

The mistake is using the same first photo you used on eBay without thinking.

On eBay, a plain front-on photo can work because buyers are comparing exact search results.

On Depop, the first image needs to stop someone scrolling.

It still needs to be accurate, but it can be a little more styled.

For example, if you are selling a vintage Nike jacket, the main Depop image should probably show the jacket’s shape and colour clearly. A close-up of the neck tag is useful, but it should not be the first image.

Step 4: Rewrite the eBay title for Depop

An eBay title is usually built like a search string.

A Depop title should still be searchable, but more readable.

Here are some examples.

The Depop version is shorter, cleaner and easier to read.

But it still includes the important search words:

• brand
• item type
• colour
• size
• style
• model, if relevant

Do not remove the useful details. Just make them feel less robotic.

Step 5: Turn the eBay description into a Depop description

A lot of eBay descriptions are written like this:

Good used condition. Please see photos. Measurements in photos. Combined postage available. No returns.

That is not enough for Depop.

Depop buyers want quick confidence. They want to know how it fits, what condition it is in, what style it suits, and whether there are any flaws.

Depop recommends including measurements, fit notes, condition, flaws, shipping information and relevant details.

A good Depop description can be simple:

Harley-Davidson grey button-up shirt in men’s 3XL.

Second-hand and cleaned. Relaxed oversized fit with a biker/workwear look. Great with jeans, cargos or worn open over a tee.

Measurements laid flat: Pit to pit: 68cm Length: 82cm Sleeve: 64cm

Condition: Good used condition. Light general wear only. No major marks or holes noticed. Please check photos for details.

Tracked postage available. Happy to bundle.

That feels more human than a standard eBay listing, but it still covers the practical details.

Step 6: Use this Depop description formula

For most clothing listings, use this structure:

1. First line: what the item is

Brand, item type, colour, size and main style.

2. Second line: second-hand disclosure

Say it is second-hand, preloved or used and cleaned where relevant.

3. Fit and styling notes

Oversized, cropped, boxy, slim, relaxed, true to size, best fit, etc.

4. Measurements

Pit to pit, length, waist, rise, inseam, sleeve, shoulder, depending on the item.

5. Condition

Be clear. “Good used condition” is fine, but mention marks, fading, cracking, pilling, missing buttons or heel wear.

6. Shipping or bundle note

Keep it short.

Here is a reusable template:

That is enough for most Depop clothing listings.

Step 7: Move eBay item specifics into the right Depop fields

Your eBay listing probably already has useful structured data.

Do not waste it.

Here is how to translate it.

A good eBay listing gives you the raw material.

A good Depop listing turns that raw material into something a fashion buyer can understand quickly.

Step 8: Add hashtags carefully

Depop says sellers can use up to five hashtags and up to two brand hashtags when creating a listing.

The key word is carefully.

Do not stuff the listing with unrelated trends.

The best hashtags support the listing. They do not try to trick the algorithm.

Depop specifically warns against misleading titles and irrelevant hashtags in its community guidelines.

Step 9: Adjust the price for Depop, not just eBay

Do not automatically copy the eBay price.

The same item can behave differently on each platform.

On eBay, buyers may compare sold comps, postage cost, seller feedback and item specifics.

On Depop, buyers may compare style, first photo, brand, price, seller vibe, offers and whether the item feels current.

Start with your eBay price, then check:

• similar active Depop listings
• whether the brand is popular on Depop
• how strong your photos are
• whether postage makes the total price too high
• how much room you want for offers
• whether the item is common or hard to find

For example, a basic $18 shirt might not be worth cross-listing if postage makes it unattractive.

A $45 Harley-Davidson shirt, $65 Nike jacket or $120 pair of Dr. Martens is much more likely to justify the extra platform.

Also remember the fee environment. Depop is removing selling fees in Australia from 22 July 2026, but payment processing fees still apply. eBay has removed transaction fees for eligible Australia-based sellers at or under the AU $25,000 sales threshold, but other costs can still apply depending on the seller and situation.

Lower fees make cross-listing more attractive, but pricing still needs to make sense for the buyer.

Step 10: Use tracked shipping and keep proof

Shipping is where a simple sale can turn into a headache.

Depop’s safety advice says sellers should only buy and sell through Depop, and if they are not using Depop Shipping, they should always ship tracked to stay protected.

For Australian sellers, that means thinking about postage before the item sells.

For clothing, a simple approach is:

• lightweight tops: satchel or tracked letter/parcel where appropriate
• jeans and jackets: tracked satchel
• boots and bulky shoes: box or larger satchel
• delicate items: extra protection
• expensive items: tracked and insured where sensible

Do not just write “postage available”.

Write something clear:

Tracked postage available. I usually post within 1-2 business days.

That gives the buyer confidence without making the listing too long.

Step 11: Remove eBay-only wording

When turning an eBay listing into a Depop listing, clean out anything that feels like it belongs only on eBay.

Remove or rewrite phrases like:

• “Please see photos as they form part of the description”
• “No returns”
• “Buy It Now”
• “Combined invoice available”
• “Posted with Australia Post Standard Parcel”
• “Item specifics above”
• “See seller’s other items”
• “Serious bidders only”

Depop buyers do not want to feel like they are reading an eBay template.

Better:

Photos show the exact item. Happy to bundle. Tracked postage available.

Short. Clear. Human.

Step 12: Make sure the item cannot sell twice

This is the boring part, but it matters most.

When you list the same physical item on eBay and Depop, you have created two doors to the same product.

That is good until two buyers walk through at once.

If the item sells on eBay, the Depop listing needs to come down. If it sells on Depop, the eBay listing needs to end.

Otherwise, you risk:

• cancelling an order
• annoying a buyer
• hurting your seller reputation
• losing track of stock
• creating avoidable admin

For a handful of items, you can manage this manually.

For a store with 50, 100 or 300 clothing listings, manual tracking becomes messy fast.

Manual workflow: eBay to Depop in 10 minutes

Here is a simple manual process:

1. Open your eBay listing.
2. Confirm the item is suitable for Depop.
3. Save or reuse your best four photos.
4. Rewrite the title in a more natural Depop style.
5. Copy the useful description details.
6. Add measurements and fit notes.
7. Add second-hand/cleaned disclosure.
8. Add accurate hashtags.
9. Set price and shipping.
10. Add the item to your stock tracker so it does not sell twice.

That last step is easy to skip.

Do not skip it.

A cross-listed item needs a system.
